WE LOVE ICE CREAM!


OUR AIM
Our aim is to produce the most luxurious ice cream and fruit ice lollies that you and your family will love.  We try to use only local ingredients from the Surrey Hills to support the local community  and combine this with our scientific knowledge to make treats that you know and trust for their authentic taste.
OUR HISTORY
Brought up and raised within the Surrey Hills, Peter's life long love of ice cream is obvious.  After gaining his degree in Chemistry Peter traveled the world with his job in consulting before settling back in Fetcham and starting a family.  He found his sons, Maxwell & Zachary, shared his love of ice cream and so Machary was born.  Partnered with his wife, Erica, they set up their own 'ice cream lab' making unique flavours using ingredients sourced from the Surrey Hills.  More recently joining the team is Peter's sister Alexandra, who has a degree in Biology and a background in food research. The combined cousins; Sophia, Thomas, Zachary and Maxwell act as the taste testers and theirs is a truly family business.

OUR VALUES


Local Partners & Ingredients

We try and use as much local produce as possible and source all milk and cream from a local dairy in Capel.  We grow our local supplier list constantly so you know you are supporting your local community.

Family Run

Machary Ice Cream is a 100% family run business by Erica, Peter and Alexandra.

Vegetarian

We do not use any meat products in any of our ice cream and fruit ices production.

No Preservatives or Additives

We are an artisian ice cream and fruit ices business.  To us this means no preservatives and natural ingredients wherever possible.  All our ice cream and lollies are handmade.

Green

All energy used in the production of our ice cream and fruit ice lollies comes from renewable sources and we are constantly introducing recyclable elements to our packing and will soon be 100% recyclable or compostable.

Food Standards Compliant

We are registered with the Food Standards Agency hygiene scheme and were recently awarded a 5 star hygiene rating by Mole Valley District Council.

Erica Eggington
Ice Cream Chef

Erica has always found her happiest moments cooking and creating in the kitchen for family and friends. Erica sought to combine her love of cooking into her own business.

Inspiration

I’ve always felt most at home in the kitchen and I’m never far away - Its my happy place. Inspired by this love of cooking and ice cream, I decided to start my own ice cream company.

Favourite Flavours

Milk Tart Ice Cream: It's a little bit of South Africa in a cone. Just like Mamma used to make!

English Strawberry Fruit Ice: I'm a smoothie junkie and we pack these lollies with fresh English strawberries.

Memorable Machary Moment

Creating a South African inspired recipe for waffle cones.

Peter Eggington
Ice Cream Chemist

A chemist by training but with the mind of an artist, Peter loves experimenting with new flavours and harnessing techniques from the chemistry lab.  Peter gained his MSci in Chemistry from Imperial College, London, a department having taught or hosted six Nobel prize winners in Chemistry. Peter specialised in both Physical and Organic disciplines which are the perfect combination to understand and produce ice cream and fruit ices. Peter's love of finding the freshest local ingredients and combining these into unique flavours has produced what we believe are outstanding ice cream and fruit ices.

Inspiration

Finding the freshest ingredients and improving my ice cream and fruit ice making techniques by understanding the base chemistry and physics to produce the finest treat we can.

Favourite Flavours

Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream: It is so rich we only make it with 70% cocoa high-quality Belgian chocolate.

Green Apple Fruit Ice: These lollies are so refreshing on a hot day!

Memorable Machary Moment

Producing my first ice cream and see my son's smiling face as he tried it.

Alexandra Jenkins née Eggington
Ice Cream Chef

As the 'Biologist' of the family, Alexandra was the natural choice to join the business. She is now co-owner and continues to develop new flavours with the team.

Alexandra also gained a BSc Hons (ARCS) degree in Biology from Imperial College. She has a long and varied research career which complements Machary including DNA research (Imperial College), food safety and authenticity analysis and Business Development Management.

Alexandra also spent 12 years as a lead analyst at the MoD but now focuses on ice cream rather than national security!

Inspiration

Using all my years of experience in developing Machary further.  Really I never want to be far from a lab or a kitchen!

Favourite Flavours

I love them all! but excited to develop more!

Mediterranean Fruit Ice:  I love the traditional lemon as they remind me of a taste from my childhood
